Mountain Biker in the Making

I think West will grow up to be a mountain biker.

I think that now. Don’t worry – I know I could be wrong, but I thought I would memorialize the thought now. That way when he does turn out to be a world class biker I can look back and say, “He loved bikes right from the get go. He was always going to be a biker.”

Fashion aside, the Ybike is West’s favorite indoor activity.

West sits on his little bike in the house with his helmet on all the time.

Extreme eating…safely

He practices falling off his bike… onto the soft dog bed.

In a town self-described as the birthplace of mountain biking, he rarely fails to point out someone on a bike. Wearisome (and endearing) for us, endless fun for him.

No Screens… Almost

We are no to the screens. No phones, no computers, and the TV is never on… except when it comes to ski, bike, and howler monkey videos.

Oh how he loves the bike videos!  He tries to do “jumps” on this bike. He pretends to have crashes.

In our little mountain town, you must love a few things: skiing, the river, the mountain, bench sitting, and bikes.

Bike Essentials for the Littlest Kiddos

We are all for blatant indoctrination so indoors and outdoors you will find bike accessories for a tiny human. These include:

  • YBike PEWI ELITE: His first bike toy. This thing is excellent. He used it to learn to walk and delighted when I pushed him around seated when his legs were too short to touch the ground. Now he wheels it all around the house.
  • Strider Balance Bike: This was the best neighbor hand-me-down. Before his legs could touch the ground he loved to be pushed down the street on it. A back breaker for a parent, a speedy renegade activity for a little one. This summer will be Strider-time all the time.
  • Burley Encore X: Wow, is this thing cool. We use it to cross-country ski, bike, and stroll into outdoor concerts with all our picnic gear. The second we walk outside West points to it and makes some sounds requesting a ride. He loves it. At our outdoor music series he often just sits inside it. This thing goes from road bike trailer to cross-country ski trailer like a dream. I know Thule has cornered the market on this type of product and I can’t do any comparison, because we couldn’t afford the Thule, but we are really happy with this trailer.
  • Nutcase helmet Baby Nutty: Something to keep that little noggin safe in style.
